Ghana is located in West Africa and it is full of various natural resources. However they don’t have the skills or the equipment to benefit from many of them so they are categorized as a very poor area. They rely on International assistance financially and for equipment. Still, they are considered to be more advanced than many of the other areas of Africa.

The commercial oil wells in Ghana have long been abandoned. During a span of seven years more than 3.5 million barrels were extracted. There is some speculation that Ghana would be a good candidate for extracting natural gas as a means of generating power.

The natural resources found in Ghana include gold, diamonds, manganese ore, and bauxite. The land is very good for growing things and the majority of works tend to the farms. Cocoa is their main export with it taking up almost 2/3 of what they send to various parts of the world. They also export large amounts of coffee.

Many people choose to travel to Ghana and the amount of money they make from tourism has helped them be better off than other African areas. However, they also have the additional costs of importing many amenities that the tourists want to have available. There is plenty of government support to continue growth of accommodations and activities to attract tourists.

One issue the deeply affects the economy of Ghana is the purchasing power they hold. Starting in 2005 it ranked the worst for getting the amount of return for their money compared to any other area. With all the different agricultural resources and natural resources though, Ghana has the potential of becoming a prosperous part of Africa.

The process for generating change is one this is slow to implement. It starts with teaching and educating the people in basic skills. It also comes with introducing new skills that the area is not familiar with including computers and engineering.

It is believed by the government of Ghana and outside observations that the key to getting Ghana out of poverty is to continue developing quality methods for industrialization. This involves providing the right equipment and the right training for the people of Ghana.

Plans have been in the works for improving Ghana since 1950. While many of them have been successful there is still plenty of work that has to be done for generations to come. The initial goal was to make sure the people had enough to eat. Since that is no longer an issue the goal has shifted to make Ghana less reliant on imports.
