A little over a month and a half ago the world watched with glee as India’s voters buried their leftist parties, including that country’s communist party, under the trash heap of history. India set off an avalanche that is sweeping the globe!
In England, Gordon Brown lost four of his most vicious left wing cabinet members, including the infamous British Home Secretary, Jacqui Smith to various scandals. Brown himself barely survived that weekend as opponents from within his own party tried to stage an intraparty coup.
EU Parliament The European Parliament probably dealt the left the most humiliating defeat since the collapse of the Berlin Wall and the USSR. Conservatives in France, Germany, Italy and Poland emerged …
I’m sure we all would like to believe that our government can create prosperity by simply handing out more money. Wouldn’t it be great if, like the businesses “too big to fail”, we could all receive big government bail-outs?
But why do they stop at only giving us a few hundred dollars or maybe even a few thousand? If giving big business and bankers billions will save our economy, why not at least give each of us a hundred thousand or so? Then we could really go out and spend our economy back to health. The new administration and congress would be heroes; they would receive our undying devotion, right!
But wait, you say, I’m just being …
After the historic elections last year, the Republican Party seemed to be in a free fall. The failed policies of President George W. Bush led to a historic Democratic White House and a Democratic-led Congress.
In 2004, when Bush was re-elected, the Democrats were the ones doing the soul-searching. Many believed that they had lost key elections because they had ignored or avoided the enormous impact that religious faith had on the lives of Americans. Now the GOP is falling victim to that same type of ignorance, this time alienating large groups of ethnic minorities that can sometimes swing an entire election one way or another.
However, the Republican Party obviously did not receive the memo that …
Channel 5 News, Salt Lake City, Utah, did a feature story about the new Cottonwood Heights Police Department’s new offensive policing policy. This is basically the way it goes: the police officer rides around the streets of the area that was previously served by the county sheriff’s department; they look for situations that might possibly create a potential crime-such as a garage door left open during the night. The officer then proceeds to stop this potential crime by waking citizens up in the middle of the night to tell them to close their garage. Some citizens said they like it, even if they are wakened at 2:00 a.m. in the morning; however, others feel that …
“No less than 71 percent of Republicans said they would vote for [Palin] for president,” according to the USA Today/Gallup poll. This was after her resignation as governor of Alaska last week. Amazing!
In this Sunday’s New York Times, Frank Rich cites that poll, concluding that “she stands for a genuine movement: a dwindling white nonurban America that is aflame with grievances and awash in self-pity as the country hurtles into the 21st century and leaves it behind.” The commentariate rightly calls attention to how flaky and inconsistent Sarah Palin is, but Rich notes that “The essence of Palinism is emotional, not ideological. . . . The real wave she’s riding is a loud, resonant surge …
Blame is not necessarily a bad or a petty thing. Blame attributed to those people who are responsible for taking actions that intentionally or unintentionally result in harm to others is appropriate; as it is to those whose inaction causes that same result. As our constitution is weakened, and our liberties stripped away by those we place in positions of authority that have no respect for either, it is easy to identify those who are to blame.
Tomorrow’s Crisis “Tomorrow will give us something to think about” Marcus Tullius Cicero, 106 BC-43 BC
On January 20, 2009, President Barack Obama took the inaugural oath to become the 44th President of the United States and Commander in Chief of the most powerful military force on earth. His mandate from the American people seems clear – change course – and he has a strong majority in the Congress to support his agenda.
Change, however, is easier to promise than deliver. If the past is prologue, the emerging economic and geopolitical landscape will have more to do with how the new President handles these challenges, than any ideological promises he made during the election campaign. Leading a …
This past week The Capital Area Association of Realtors released June home sales figures. For the second month in a row the association decided to do a previous month comparison, and year over year comparison. Why would they start a previous month comparison? In my opinion because the numbers sound better than year over year comparisons. What is being reported is factual, closed home sales for June were up over 20% from May. Sounds great doesn’t it?
What wasn’t reported was that June virtually has more home sales every year than May, and May home sales were down over 20%. This tid bit of information would put the previous month into proper perspective. OK, sales were …
Talking about exactly what the liberals in our government are going to get away with when it comes down to seizing control over the health care industry in America is difficult because one liberal says they want one thing, another wants something different and others want yet other things. However there have been some universal themes that seem to be popular enough among the left that they are almost certain to be included in any final, bad and unconstitutional plan they put forth. One of these things is the concept of mandatory coverage inasmuch that if you do not have health insurance you will be forced to buy in. You might even be fined or …
