Human Life Is Not A Commodity. Why Is Human Health Care In The USA?
I may be a nosy Canadian, but I’m not the only one with compassion for my neighbour and an opinion on the outrageous undertakings in the American version of a health care system. So, on the heels of Michael Moore’s ‘Sicko’ and Bill Moyers’ revealing interview on PBS with Wendell Potter, ex-Head of Corporate Communications for CIGNA, I feel compelled to share my views and offer some solutions.

Cap and Trade is Cap and Tax and Tax

The American Clean Energy and Security Act of 2009, H.R. 2454, better known as cap and trade, passed the House on June 26th. The vote was 219, to 212.
This bill will not become law until it has been voted on by the Senate.
According to the bill, the purpose is to create clean energy jobs, achieve energy independence, reduce global warming pollution, and transition to a clean energy economy.
Interestingly enough, now days, because of our horrible financial troubles, all bills seem to emphasize that jobs will be created. If the economy were good, then the global warming argument would come first, and the job creation may not be mentioned at all.

Happy Independence Day! This is the 233 celebration of the signing of the Declaration of Independence. This timeless document established the foundation for the writing of the constitution which led to the greatest democratic form of government in history.

Health Care and other Issues

The President wants health care reform, well so do a lot of other people in this country,BUT, will it ever come.
I don’t care how hard he tries, he will never be able to achieve this, why, because this depends on forces bigger than him. This takes me back to 1976, in Oklahoma, I was working for an agency that was implementing section 8 housing.

The Constitutional guaranty of freedom of speech is contained in the First Amendment and is but one of six guarantees spelled out in that amendment. The section relating to free speech is actually limited to 10 words, “Congress shall make no law . . . abridging the freedom of speech.”
As with most rights, free speech has limitations and those limits go far beyond the old example of yelling “Fire!” in a crowded theater when there is no fire, a very reasonable restriction.

Political Manipulation Through Implicit Premises

There is an old joke that starts by asking you, “Have you stopped beating your wife yet?” Whether you answer yes or no it sounds like you are admitting to being a wife beater. It’s a practical joke based on the use of an implicit premise – that you beat your wife. The technique is used for more than a laugh though. It’s also a favorite of politicians, who use it to manipulate public opinion.
